Four Poems by Sanjeev Sethi

Glissade

Originally published in Section 8 Magazine (2016)

Fire-hosed I fumed.
Striated by a script
I had no command over,
I looked for locales to ski.
My window had no view.
Living with inquiries
I craved for insight sliding
through portals of piety.
Volitions are reified by
an invisible toboggan.
In this lies my glide.

Resolve

Tingle of getting sipped to the last drop
isn’t in the lot of all beverages. Strewing
one’s story to the final straw isn’t for all.
Over-the-top and overcompensation aren’t
harpoons of hostility but words hurled just
like that. If you feel good dubbing feelings
to dockets, you must do so. I will abide by
the business of loving you.

Tuneful

When legit poets and their legally wedded
wives ask, “What do you actually do?” I
sense their agita. I understand when others
segue this with pleasantries and puff. At my
age, I catch on, some I choose not to. This
helps with the horizons.

Report Card

Originally published in Olentangy Review (June 2017)

In front of my eyes I have seen you
frame the architecture of your exist-
ence. Floor by floor. At first blush
I clock no blots: I’m not speaking
of philosophical or anagogic cracks.
But, what well-wishers look for, or
are capable of witting. The foyer is
first-rate. Get the essence? Quillets
are for carpers. Or obsessive lovers.
